Eyebrow Beading and Other Convertible D / Roadster Details

By Chuck House

On Convertible Ds and Roadsters, the eyebrow bead actually went inside the padded dash strips so there was a naked vinyl edge showing at the end of the padded strips as it met the eyebrow bead. Look around at the next show and 99% of the cars won't have this done like the factory did it.

Shown below are photos of original, unrestored cars. All unrestored Ds and Roadsters I've ever seen have the eyebrow bead going inside the padded belts on the dash with a naked vinyl edge showing as seen in the photos. Do yours correctly and you'll definitely stand out in a crowd as no upholstery shops that I know of (including Autos International) does this right.

That's what makes unrestored cars so interesting. There are so many details to study if you are so inclined. For example, the second to last photo shows the seat rail mounting. Notice the two different sized flat washers. The last photo shows the brass screws (instead of rivets) securing the body badge. Again, these two peculiarities (along with a bunch others) are seen on Ds and Roadsters.
